Committing to a timeline and budget is uncomfortable because it makes the plan falsifiable. An undefined budget and timeline can never be over-run. But the discomfort of committing is exactly the point — it forces you to think clearly about whether the plan is realistic, and it creates a concrete frame against which to manage the build.
Most first-time founders underestimate both time and money. Software takes longer than expected. Unexpected problems surface. Context switching costs more than anticipated. Building in buffers isn't pessimism — it's calibration based on how builds actually work. A plan with no slack is a plan that will slip.
