Every product plan rests on a set of assumptions. Some of them — if wrong — would cause the whole thing to fail. Others are wrong-able but recoverable. Identifying which assumptions carry the most risk, and planning how to test them, is one of the highest-leverage things you can do before committing to a build.
The most dangerous assumptions are the ones you're not aware you're making. You might be assuming that users will change existing habits to use your product, that they'll pay a certain price, that the problem you identified is frequent enough to justify a product, or that a specific distribution channel will work. These deserve scrutiny before you build.
