Rate problem severity and frequency

How often does your target user face this problem — and how badly does it affect them when they do?

Two numbers matter more than most when assessing a problem: how often it happens, and how bad it is when it does. Together, they tell you whether you're looking at something worth building around or something people just live with.

Frequency without severity gives you a problem people notice but don't care much about solving. Severity without frequency gives you a dramatic problem that rarely costs enough to drive behaviour change. The sweet spot — frequent and severe — is where the strongest product opportunities tend to live.

This exercise asks you to be specific about both, and to back each up with something beyond instinct. Not a full research project — just honest thinking about what you actually know versus what you're assuming.
