When most people think about competition, they list the obvious products in the space. But that's only part of the picture. Your real competition is everything a user might choose instead of you — including a workaround they've been using for years, a generic tool they've bolted into their workflow, or simply deciding the problem isn't worth solving right now.
Understanding that full landscape matters because it shapes what you need to offer. If the main alternative is a cheap-but-annoying spreadsheet setup, the bar you need to clear is very different from a deeply entrenched enterprise tool with years of user data inside it. Both are competition. They just require different responses.
