When you reach a decision point in validation, there are really only three honest options: build it as planned, refine it before building, or stop and move on. Most founders know this in the abstract but struggle to apply it clearly to their own situation — especially when they've invested time and energy in the idea.
The way to make a cleaner decision is to separate the three options, construct the strongest honest case for each, and then see where your evidence actually lands. This means genuinely engaging with the case for stopping, even if stopping feels wrong. It means writing out the case for refining, even if you'd rather not change anything. And it means holding your gut instinct up against the evidence and seeing where they agree and where they conflict.
