Launching is not one thing. There is a spectrum from a quiet release to a handful of trusted users all the way to a public announcement with press, social, and a big push. Most founders default to one end or the other without thinking it through — either they keep delaying because they want a "proper" launch, or they blast everything at once before they're ready to learn from it.
The right kind of launch depends on what you most need to find out. If you need to understand whether people can use the product at all, a small soft launch with five users will tell you more than a thousand sign-ups from a ProductHunt post.
