Set up your launch tracking

You can't improve what you can't measure. Put the basics in place before you go live.

Instructions

Most founders set up analytics after launch, which means they spend the first weeks flying blind. The first user interactions are the most revealing ones you'll ever see — they're also the ones you're least equipped to interpret if you haven't thought about what you're measuring in advance.

Good launch tracking is not about tracking everything. It's about deciding what matters, setting it up before you go live, and making sure it's actually working before the first user arrives. The mistake is relying on page views or session counts as a proxy for real engagement. What you actually want to know is: did users get to the first meaningful moment in the product? Did they come back? What action preceded them staying versus leaving?
